60 Ideas for Europe

The idea behind the European Schools is brilliant. Having had our children attending one of them, it was inspiring to see how the children mixed and became friends with children from other countries in a natural day to day fashion. Strangely, however, when it came to history lessons, those given were from the home country of the teacher in question.
A truly European curriculum should also include a common history course where children and youth are taught of their roots, their heritage, their European culture not from one country’s point of view, but from a European point of view. This latter would need to involve looking at events and issues from multiple angles. This work is progressing through EUROCLIO, but needs support and speed to enrich and deepen the European project.
