I think that in Europe it is time to think about immigration problems. The Europeans no longer seem mannered, reserved, correct people. The reason for this trend is the blind imitation of the mass culture of show business. Relegated to the background values of family, home, children. Europe is time to understand that we [...]

People know little about the European project. Only an ambitious and comprehensive approach can remedy this shortcoming. People should – even superficially - be aware of the whereabouts of the European project and the numerous benefits it generates. When European decisions are to be taken options should feed the public debate. European political parties shall [...]

The EU-is-good-for-you campaign
The idea: Once a month the EU puts an advertisement in a high-circulatuion print medium in all member states(or alternatively some), headed”Europe is good for you”.
Example contents:Energy monopolies must be broken-your costs will be reduced;strict pollution limits are good for your health; speed limits are good for you-more EU citizens will survive.

Much done; many new ideas to find and turn into reality…
There are likely to be “telethon” events in your country as there are in the UK. In the UK we have Comic Relief, Children in Need, Sports Relief and maybe some less regular ones.
Would it be beneficial to have a European “telethon” event to [...]

In these days the Parliament in my home country Austria is going to sign the recent EU-Treaty. Although rather interested in EU topics I found myself fairly uninformed about details of the new treaty. In discussions with friends and citizens of my country I realized that the majority of the people I talked to does [...]

How are we supposed to speak with one voice if we don’t share an eye? Or necessarily not even the same information.

One reason, why EU citizens haven´t developed a common society and collective
memory is the dominant position of national media.
The need for a single media source available for all citizens at the same time would enhance an EU wide common knowledge.
Therefore, the creation of an EU TV channel seems overdue. Daily news, and documentations about EU-European [...]

Mass Media are powerful tools to create a community and society consciousness. As such, there is a very important need to promote the development of new Pan-European media that truly portrays the impact of EU legislation and decision on all country members. That, and not just a mere translation of news, could help people from [...]

EU supported television channel
Most people like to travel, but we can´t all do it as much as we like- but we need to know more about each other. My suggestion will be to encourage national or local filmmakers from each of the 27 countries to produce short stories from their country for a common european [...]

As a current affairs journalist with an extensive portfolio on Wider Europe, the EU and EU integration, including EU enlargement and well knowing the issues (I am a former Convenor of a Pan-European Group at the FPA in London), I would suggest:
to the mass media, please allow a much wider contributions from freelance professional journalists [...]
